I posted a video for Jupiter Island homes but then I had to replace the audio for my Jupiter Island Homes For Sale video for the umpteenth time because YouTube stripped it off the .mov file somehow. I guess the choice is to re-render in iMovie and not trust the output of Keynote or be ready to choose an alternate sound track. The track I found matched well enough that it goes well with the views of homes and real estate in Jupiter Island but obviously, I’d rather have had my first choice.

Having invested my research skills and plenty of time reading, I’ve realized that there isn’t alot of hard information on SEO for video except that there are three ways to use it:
Directly on your website – you create a flash file, player, everything and host it on your website. Then you need the right plugins, sitemap elements and thumbnail image constructed properly after which you invite Google and other search engines to have a look. The search engine looks at your content and decides whether to index it. A lot of work for a chance at an index that lands on page 12.
Embedded on your website – entertains the troops but no-one else will generally know about it unless you use all the traditional methods you would to get traffic to any other page.
Directly on the Video site- now there’s the challenge. You have to compete with everyone else but many do little search optimization either onsite or offsite for a video they post on YouTube, Vimeo, etc.
The result for video SEO is really rewarding when it works. Your video is often the only link on a search page with its own thumbnail image and the promise of something to look at- not just to read.
SEO for video, the more you post, the more Google loves you. There seems to be a reciprocal relationship between the frequency of posts and the speed with which Google indexes your posts. hmmm…

That’s the short of it. If you’re not posting the maximum photographs with every real estate listing, you’re essentially throwing away money- lots of it.
I’d venture to suggest that video follows this theory too and will continue as video becomes a more integral part of universal search. You don’t have to be an SEO expert to realize that people expect more interactive media in their search experience as it becomes more common.
The Mirasol homes video link did exceptionally well but no other keywords were affected, which leads me to theorize that the videos are quite dependent on specific SEO to that keyword. This post will help in assessing the validity of this theory.
Another target is the home in La Cresta, CA. The keyword most specific brings the video to the top but the most likely search, La Cresta homes has yet to resolve with video results.
Video seems an ambiguous SEO endeavor. I’ve found little solid technique such as is easily found for organic web searches. This isn’t to say that algorithms for video aren’t guessable, but other than back links and relevant text on the video page or site, I’m pretty much in the dark as the next SEO practitioner.
I’m still in the assessment phase of what may even work or have predictable results. The types of video seem to matter a lot to Google. Youtube gets much greater attention and indexing than your own self-hosted video.
