ANTIQUE RECLAIMED FRENCH OAK PLANKS
These planks are reclaimed from farmhouses and barns throughout France. Our antique oak planks have an almost black surface, which stems from the oxidation effect of tannic acid in the oak wood. This process takes an extremely long time to produce, and is a good indicator of the age of our reclaimed boards. We will leave this aged black surface untouched, which distinguishes our boards from beam-cut or younger reclaimed flooring. We clean and denail these planks, kiln dry them, and then mill them to your specifications. Our standard thickness is ¾ inches. We rip the planks in four to five standard widths for easier installation. Lengths can exceed 15′ and widths are up to 18 inches. The milled antique oak planks still have cracks, wormholes and nail marks in them, which produces a time-worn patina unmatched by new wood flooring options. In addition, we offer traditional parquet made from these dark-surface oak planks. Whether it is a Herringbone or Chevron pattern or the intricate interwoven technique of Versailles or Chantilly parquet slabs, our antique French oak will produce masterpieces of dark antique flooring.
